Old Banners

Today is Old Memories Day  for us. About 5 years ago I made few banners for the LARP we were in. The following are not all of the ones I made but a few.

The First one is a Tavern Banner that we did called "The Drunken Griffin" This is a reversible banner. Which mans it is actually 2 put back to back. The front side the tavern name is done in Moon Runes. All fabric Appliquéd. I used Paint and fabric markers for the details. I was not very good then with sewing machine applique work. The pics doesn't really do it any justice. The only thing its missing is a banner pole in the top.

This banner is the one I made for LeUricks Elven Race. In the Game we had an Elven Court. and the creator made Elven Nation Insignias. This one it the Dark Elves. All Fabric applique no paint. All that is missing is a banner pole through the top.

I have many more someplace but for now these were the only ones I found. I hope you enjoyed our past projects :)

Challenge: Witch Brooms

Here is a cute crafting idea from Make and Take posted by Marie. Tiny brooms made of yarn and pipe cleaners. We made ours with our daughter, and it was a lot of fun. I am sure you can do ANY color for the broom part, the more colors the better I say lol.

Directions with our Photo steps:

Mini Witch brooms
Yarn Brown or Yellow
Pipe Wire Brown or Black
Scissors

Measure out 20-30 pieces of yarn at 7 inches long.

*note we measured our pipe cleaner pieces*

Fold the yarn pile in half using a pipe cleaner loop and twist together.

Split the yarn the other way and loop the another pice of pipe cleaner.

Twist pieces together to make the handle.

Take a small pice of pipe cleaner and about 1/2 inch from the fold wrap around.

Trim the bottom of the yarns to give it an even shape.

We can't wait to see what you do with this simple and fun craft!

To turn in your submission you can Blog it and link to us, Do a video blog and link to us, can answer this post with a photo link, or e-mail us your photos and comments and we will post them to this blog post! sacredoak2002@yahoo.com

Herbal Spell Kits

We have been wrestling with the idea of making Spell Herbal Kits. We noticed recently that almost everyone has them so we may not even make them. we ask because many of our whole-sellers are making these kits. We would really like your input on this.
How we would make them:
Each kit would be designed for specific needs from elemental works to protection magic.
In the kits will be herbs (and herb list in case of allergies) A drawstring bag the color for that spell work, Incense that fits the need, Bath Salts that are made for the specific need, And anything else that the specific spell might ask for. There will be an instruction parchment as well. We know many get so busy that they just didn't have the time to put things together for there magic work. We don't want to copy anyone and will try to keep them as original as possible.
We also know many have issues with kits.
What are your thoughts? We love to here from you!

So what do you say shall we have a face off?

This week is Strawberry Lemonade Cupcakes:
We had found an How to make these cupcakes from Cut Out and Keep, unfortunately the creator left out ingredients  and how much of certain ones. So we took on the challenge in making up a batch and giving out this recipe. The following is how we made these yummy treats!

Cake:
3/4 cup butter
1 1/3 cups sugar
3 eggs room temp
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 cups cake flour sifted
1 cup milk (or milk alternative almond milk tastes great in these cupcakes)
2 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 small package lemon jello or Pudding (follow the package instructions)
1 cup vegetable oil

Heat oven to 350

Mix all ingredients until smooth mix will be slightly thick.
Put into cupcake cups and bake for 18-28 minutes.
Let cool on cooling rack for 2 hours.

Now for the topping you can do several things you can make whip cream, buy whip cream or use cream cheese frosting which is what we did.
2   8 ounce packages of cream cheese
1/2 cup butter
2 cups powder sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla

Blend together. In a piping bag decorate the tops of the cupcakes. Add either sliced strawberries, blueberries, raspberries.

We used the jumbo foil cups which takes 1/3 cup of batter into every cup. Ours baked for 30 minutes and made 14 cupcakes.
We also had Mint Chiller with our cupcakes yum great for an late afternoon refresher in the summertime.

Feel free to change up the recipe to fit your needs and share them with us, we would LOVE to see your cupcakes! Just post a link in the comments section :)

Custom Order: Skyrim Robe

*Caution Picture Heavy Post!*
*May 29th*
Most of our work is Custom orders, while we do come up with our own designs we love doing custom as well. After all it is the Customers item and they should be  able to get what they want. Recently we were commissioned to make a robe but not just any robe. The customer wanted the Skyrim Dragon painted on the back. For those who are not sure what that is, we will tell you. The Dragon emblem from the Morrowind Games. He also wanted the Nine Nobel Virtues translated in Thebian Runes and painted on the edge of the robe as the trim. This project has taken a lot of time but it has been worth it. The following is the sketches to the finished robe. Enjoy!
Rough Sketch of the robe design.
These virtues were translated into Theban Runes which took 35 minutes
(Reference of the Alphabet)
Translation Notes

Translation Notes

The Dragon that will be enlarged and painted on the back of the robe

Cloak Clasp

Cloak Clasp that fits in my palm and I have small hands.
Cloak Clasp next to the silver fabric paint and acrylic paint that will be used on the robe.

Back of robe, Its been cloudy and humid outside the pics were not coming out, so I had to do them inside.

With sleeve extended.

Side front with hubby.

Silver machine stitched boarder that the runes will be placed inside to make the boarder.

Using a seamstress pencil I started the translations into the boarder.

Practice with the paints left side acrylic right side Fabric paint.

Fabric paint

I had to paint the letters in sections this took almost two days alone. While I waited for sections to dry I worked on my Circlet some.

Must keep busy to keep the boardroom away!

Hubby Did the enlarging of the dragon and due to copy right laws we had to change the dragon up a bit.
After centering the Big Embroidery Hoop in the back hubby then used his pattern and traced the dragon onto the back and I painted the outline.

After several hours of waiting for the outline to dry he then painted the first coat of the silver dragon. We will see after it dry's if it needs touch ups. Then after that we will then Heat set it and make sure all dust, lint and stray hairs are removed by putting it through the wash and dryer and then iron again. This process also makes sure all pencil marks are removed as well as making it set even more. So far this Robe has taken just over a week to make.

*June 8th* Finished pictures of the garment And soon to be a custom listing in our shop for those who must have one with the option of the dragon of being painted or appliqued.

(I have come for your soul)
Sorry couldn't resist the caption

Well thats it, A nearly 3 weeks project has come to a close. And yes if you are wondering the robe is a bit on the scifi design but it works and this robe would look good with a silver/chain type belt ;)

Keep your eyes peeled at our shop to see it listed soon!
